The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has arrested three persons, including a married couple, who have engaged in a large scale employment scam by promising innocent victims jobs in South Korea.
The illegal racket had been carried out using a website identical to the website of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said.
He stated that a resident of Kollupitiya, his wife and another woman were involved in the scam and that the chief suspect had posed as a coordinating secretary to Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister, Dilan Perera.
Following a complaint received by the CID, the main suspect, his wife and the person responsible for creating the fake website have been arrested, the spokesman told reporters in Colombo.
Another woman involved in the scam has fled to Italy while Sri Lanka Police is to request the Interpol to issue ‘red notice’ for her arrest.
Meanwhile Rohana requested those who have fallen victim to these suspects to contact the CID.
