Hours after a Sri Lankan housemaid was found murdered in a villa in Arabian Ranches area, the Dubai Police have arrested her husband for the crime. The husband, who is here on a visit visa, allegedly stabbed the victim because he suspected her of infidelity.

On June 4, the Dubai Police rushed to the villa after being informed about the murder. Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers and forensic doctors discovered the deceased, identified as S.A., lying in a pool of blood in a room in the villa. S.A., who was in her 20s, was stabbed to death and the police recovered the knife used in the crime from the site.

The resident of the villa, a Dutch national, told the police that the deceased was hired to walk the dog. He was not at home when the body was found, he told the police. “A family friend called and asked me to come home immediately,” he told the police. When he reached his villa, he found a Filipino maid, who had discovered the body, crying hysterically.

Forensic reports showed that the victim was strangulated before she was stabbed. In the course of the investigation, the police found that the deceased had been working at the villa for over a year. She was married and had two children back home in Sri Lanka.

In the course of the investigation the police zeroed in on the victim’s husband. Major Adil Al Joker, Director of the CID, said the accused had come to the UAE several times on a visit visa. The police located him in Al Barsha area and arrested him even as he was preparing to flee the country.

The man reportedly confessed to having murdered the victim, saying that he suspected her of having an affair. Earlier, she had told him that she had an affair and begged for forgiveness, the police said.

The man has been charged with murder and will be referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution, Khaleej Times reports.
