VIDEO: Decision on election dates taken by President – Eran

The day to hold the Presidential election is not decided by the Elections Secretariat or the Election laws but by the President himself, UNP MP Eran Wickramaratne said today.
Addressing a press briefing in Colombo he added that the public reserved the right to know when voters will be registered and elections held. However the government is hiding it from the public, he alleged. I have no confidence in the Elections Commissioner or the Secretariat, he said.
With the passing of the 18th amendment to the constitution the independence of the Independent Commissions was lost, Eran claimed.
