China’s growing presence in Sri Lanka a threat to world trade: Nedumaran

The increased presence of China in Sri Lanka would pose a threat not only to India but also to world trade through the Indian Ocean, the major trade route between the East and the West, the leader of India’s Tamil National Front P. Nedumaran has said.
The “appeasement policy” adopted by the Indian Central Government towards Sri Lanka would do the country no good, he said.
Mr. Nedumaran said the Centre’s proposal for allowing 100 per cent foreign direct investment in the railways was a reversal of the former Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru’s drive to nationalise the railways.
