An eight-year-old girl who was reported missing in Norton Bridge, Hatton has been found hiding at her school since last evening, police said.
The child was found at the Vidulipura Maha Vidyalaya in Norton Bridge followin a search operation carried out by the police with assistance from villagers and the army, Ada Derana reporter said.
The girl, who had been brought up by an aunt after being abandoned by her parents, is believed to have run away from home and hidden herself at school due to being admonished by her aunt.
Norton Bridge Police said the girl was starving when she was found this morning and that onward action would be taken after she is subjected to a medical check.
The girl’s aunt had lodged a complaint with police yesterday (13) stating that when she returned from the market the girl wasn’t at home.
Norton Bridge Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
