St. John’s College in Nugegoda will be closed on Tuesday (16) and Wednesday (17) in order resolve a dispute, following protests demanding the annulment of transfer orders issued to the school’s principal, Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.
He stated that the Provincial Education Ministry had decided to transfer the principal in order to fill existing vacancies in schools.
However, a group of parents had engaged in protests today as well as last Friday demanding that the principal not be transferred from the school.
Therefore the school has been temporarily closed in order to resolve the issue, Ranatunga said.
Meanwhile it has been reported that allegations leveled against the school’s principal by several parties had been one of the causes for his transfer order.
