Fourteen arrested for driving drunk in Moratuwa

Fourteen persons have been arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol in the Moratuwa area last night, police said.
The arrests were made during a special operation carried out by the Moratuwa Police traffic unit to apprehend drunk drivers.
Thirteen of the arrested persons are motorcyclists while the other is a van driver, OIC (traffic) of the Moratuwa Police Sub-inspector Y.K. Ranjith Jayaratne said.
He stated that so far 17 persons had died from traffic accidents in the Moratuwa area this year and that the special operation was launched with the intention of reducing such accidents.
The arrested motorists are to be produced at the Moratuwa Magistrate’s Court.
