
Indian Police foiled an attempt made by six members of the Adi Tamilar Peravai to burn the Sri Lankan national flag near the Red Cross building in Coimbatore on Monday.
The demonstrators raised slogans seeking release of the five Tamil Nadu fishermen, who faced death sentence in Sri Lanka.
The members were removed from the place, taken into custody and released later that day, The Hindu reported.
Meanwhile the All India Youth Federation staged a demonstration in Coimbatore on Monday covering their heads using a piece of black cloth, and a rope tied around their neck, in protest against the death sentence awarded to five Indian fishermen in Sri Lanka on the charge of smuggling drugs into the country.
The federation’s district president M.V. Kalyanasundaram led the demonstration.
