Three youths killed in 2 motorcycle accidents

Two teenagers died after a motorcycle veered off the road and crashed into a power pole in the Madampella area in Kochchikade.

 

Police said the motorcycle rider and the passenger were rushed to the Akaragama Hospital, with critical injuries, following the accidents, which occurred at around 7.45pm last night.

 

However, they both succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment. The victims, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old from Madampella, were traveling from Welekade towards Kadawala at the time of the crash.

 

The postmortem examinations are to be conducted today while Kochchikade Police are conducting an investigation.

 

Meanwhile in a separate accident a motorcyclist died after he crashed into a lorry on the Irabadagama-Lihiriyagama road last evening.

 

Dankotuwa Police said the motorcycle rider, Jeewan Munatunga, 27, was driving recklessly when he had collided head-on with the lorry.

 

He was immediately admitted to the Kuliyapitiya Hospital, however was pronounced dead on admittance.

 

Police have taken into custody the lorry and its driver, a 38-year-old from Pannala. Dankotuwa Police traffic unit is conducting an investigation.
