Ameer Ali to fill Azwer’s seat

All Ceylon Muslim Congress (ACMC) Eastern Provincial Council member, Ameer Ali, is to take oaths as a Member of Parliament (MP) to fill the seat vacated by the UPFA’s A.H.M. Azwer.

 

UPFA National List MP A.H.M. Azwer resigned from Parliament on November 28 while it was proposed that Ameer Ali be given the MP seat.

 

However the final decision was taken by the party today, ACMC secretary Y.L.S Hameed said, adding, that Ali would be sworn in next week.

 

Ameer Ali Shihabdeen, a former Parliamentarian and former Minister of Disaster Relief Services, is a member of Minister Rishad Bathiudeen’s All Ceylon Muslim Congress in Eastern Provincial Council.

 

Ameer Ali was one of three ACMC Eastern Provincial Council members who decided to sit independently in the council from 25 November.
