The police have initiated an investigation in connection with an election violation incident occurred, this morning, in which an unidentified group of people had allegedly damaged a stage and some decorations of Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena in Wanduramba area in Galle.
The armed gang arrived in two defenders had damaged and attempted to set the stage on fire, it was reported.
However, the situation is now under control and the rally of the Common Candidate is scheduled to launch at the same location, a source said.
Meanwhile, the police have apprehended five individuals over their alleged involvement in a shooting incident at an opposition rally held in Kulankuttiya area in Galnewa, last night.
Ada Derana reporter said that gunshots fired into the sky by the unidentified group, soon after the rally was finished.
