Tissa’s revelation is a ‘fraud’ – UNP

The United National Party (UNP) charged that the alleged secret agreement which was revealed by the party’s former General Secretary Tissa Attanayake was a “fraud”.

Attanayake, who is now the Minister of Health in the UPFA government, at a press conference yesterday (22) claimed that UNP Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe and Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena signed an agreement in private in addition to the MoU singed in public.

There is no such secret agreement between Ranil Wickramasinghe and Common Candidate, UNP General Secretary Kabeer Hashim said. “The government has prepared a fake agreement and is now attempting to spread it,” he told reporters last evening.

He accused the government of resorting to such tactics in the face of imminent defeat by forging such documents in an attempt mislead the voters.

The UNP MP stated that they have filed a complaint with the Commissioner of Elections regarding the matter and that they have attached a copy of the “forged document.”

“This clearly shows to what extent the government has fallen and the extent of their fear,” he said.

Hashim stated that it is regrettable that the ruling party has fallen to such a low level due to its inability to win the election by saying the truth.

Head of the UNP’s Media Committee MP Mangala Samaraweera, also speaking at the press briefing, stated that another fault in this agreement is that the signature above Ranil Wickramasinghe’s name is in English.

He pointed out that the Opposition Leader always signs Sinhala documents in Sinhala and not in English. Even the sign above the name of the Common Candidate has been forged, he said, adding that Maithripala never refers to himself as Opposition’s Common Candidate as there is no such post.
