New Cabinet ministers take oath today

The swearing in ceremony of the new Cabinet will be held at the President Secretariat Office, this afternoon. 

 

Over 25 parliamentarians of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), have defected and pledged their support to President Sirisena within the last 48-hours. 

 

The president, who needs a majority in the 225-member assembly to push through ambitious reforms, has moved to strengthen his hold on parliament by securing further defections from former ruling party. Sirisena has pledged to reverse many of the constitutional changes made by the former president with his 100 day work programme as well.
