The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has issued a directive to the Department of Immigration and Emigration (DIE) to seize the passports of former Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal and Parliamentarian Sajin Vass Gunawardena.

Controller General of Immigration & Emigration M.N. Ranasinghe told Ada Derana that the bribery commission, in a letter addressed to the DIE, has directed to seize the passports of Cabraal and Gunawardena, in a bid to prevent them from leaving the country.

This came after the The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) lodged a complaint with the Bribery Commission against 12 former governmental members including former President.

While charging that the bribery commission was being biased during past few years, Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath added “former Minister Basil Rajapaksa has already fled to the US. The commission is mandated to prevent anyone from leaving the country. The JVP has requested the commission to suspend the passports of these people until the investigations are concluded.”
