Robbers wearing ‘full-face helmets’ make off with Rs1 million

A private bank in Attidiya has been robbed by two armed men wearing full-face helmets this afternoon, police said.

The robbery took place at around 1.45pm today when the armed robbers had arrived on a motorcycle, fired around 3 shots and made off with around Rs 1 million in cash.

Police said that a security guard at the private bank located in Attidiya, Dehiwala was wounded in the incident and has been admitted to the Kalubowila Hospital.

Incidentally the police department had yesterday (2) announced that the ban on wearing full face helmets by motorcyclists will be enforced from 21 March, in the wake of a crime spree by persons wearing such helmets to conceal their identity.
