Minster and Cabinet Spokesman Rajitha Senaratne on Sunday (22) said that the Government will form a coalition with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

The observation was made while addressing a medical clinic held in Aluthgama.

“This will be a historic decision,” the Minister said.

In the meantime, an unofficial source told Ada Derana that the new Government will offer ministerial portfolios for several senior SLFP members as well.

“This will be discussed at the SLFP group meeting which is scheduled to be held at the Presidential Secretariat Office, this afternoon. President Maithripala Sirisena might also brief his views and the key objectives about the UNP-SLFP national government concept” the source added.

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake told Parliament yesterday (21) that the Government is ready to work on a national government along with the opposition, but they would never protect wrongdoers on both sides.

Meanwhile, former Minister and leader of the National Freedom Front (NFF) Wimal Weerawansa today severely criticised the government’s decision to form the national government with the SLFP.
