Police today used water cannons to disperse a group of individual from the Sinhala Ravaya Organization, including Buddhist monks and laymen, after they attempted to disregard police orders and forcefully enter the Kuragala sacred site.
Members of the Sinhala Buddhist ultra nationalist group had staged a protest since this morning blocking the road leading to the sacred site while they had later attempted to enter the area.
Kalthota Police then notified the protestors that a court order has been issued preventing them from entering the secret site.
However, when the members of the Sinhala Ravaya Organisation had attempted to forcefully enter the Kuragala site by disregarding the order, police resorted to using water cannons to disperse them, Ada Derana reporter said.
