A proposal signed by some 60 Parliamentarians, requesting to appoint Mahajana Eksath Peramuna leader Dinesh Gunawardena as the Opposition Leader, has been handed over to the Speaker, former Minister T.B. Ekanayake told Ada Derana.

He added up to now some 60 MPs have signed the proposal.

Meanwhile, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa is also about to make two key decisions at the Parliament today (7).

The Speaker will announce the Supreme Court determination on the draft bill on the 19th Amendment, and will also reveal his decision on the Opposition Leader’s post, which subject of controversy after 26 SLFP MPs joined the government to accept ministerial portfolios.

Several MPs argued that this made present Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva not fitting to hold his post.

The Supreme Court took up 19 petitions filed against the proposed 19th Amendment to the Constitution on Monday (7).
