All parties agreed to debate on Supreme Court approved sections of the 19th Amendment in Parliament on 21 and 22 April, General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), Minister Susil Premajayantha, said.
This was discussed at a special all party conference which was held on Sunday (19) at the Presidential Secretariat with the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
All political parties were invited for the meeting where the issues pertaining to the constitutional amendment were discussed at length.
Earlier, the Supreme Court determined that the 19th Amendment is consistent with the Constitution, but certain sections require a referendum. However, the Prime Minister later announced that the sections which require a referendum will be omitted from the amendment.
