An argument between Sri Lankan housemates as they prepared dinner allegedly escalated into one man chasing another with a meat cleaver around their Blacktown home.
Australian Police said three men were at their Lyton St home drinking and chopping onions and chicken for dinner on Saturday afternoon when they allegedly began to argue over one man talking himself up.
One man, 25, allegedly grabbed the cleaver and swung it at his 27-year-old male housemate, reportedly missing his neck by barely an inch.
Police allege the 25-year-old man then chased his housemate through the home and into the front yard.
Police arrived on the scene a short time later to find the 27-year-old man in the front yard while the 25-year-old man was holed up inside with their 39-year-old roommate.
After he was ordered outside by police, the man left the Lyton St home without the meat cleaver.
He was arrested and brought to Blacktown police station where police said he was moderately intoxicated.
A translator was required to gather statements from all three men, who were originally from Sri Lanka.
The 25-year-old man was charged with being armed with an intent to commit an indictable offence and may face further charges.
