A 38-year-old man who was critically wounded following an attack with sharp objects by an unknown group of individuals while he was riding a motorcycle in Nivithigala-Ratnapura, has succumbed to injuries after being admitted to hospital.

Police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the victim is a resident of Dambagammana and that so far no suspects have been identified in connection with the murder.

Nivithigala Police is conducting further investigations into the incident which took place last night.

However, the Executive Director of CaFFE Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon claims that the murder victim, Thushara Devalegama, is a main supporter of an ex-female Parliamentarian, who was also a former minister.

Issuing a statement, he says that the victim was attacked by a group of men who had obstructed his path while traveling along the road.

When inquired by Ada Derana, the police spokesman said that it has still not been revealed as to whether the murder was an act of political violence.
