Man held with foreign currency worth over Rs 4.5m

A passenger attempting to leave the country with a large sum of undeclared foreign currency in his possession was arrested by customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake. 

Customs spokesman Leslie Gamini said that the 54-year-old man from Dematagoda was arrested after 130,000 Saudi Riyals, estimated to be worth more than Rs 4.5 million, were found in his luggage. 

He was preparing to board flight UL281 bound for Jeddah last evening, the spokesman said.
