Major General Prasanna de Silva has been removed from the post of Colonel of the Regiment of Commando Regiment, a spokesman said.
Brigadier Ralph Nugera has replaced Major General Prasanna De Silva, as the as Colonel of the Regiment, army spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said.
The appointment has been made on exigencies of service, he said.
However, the spokesman said that Major General Prasanna De Silva would continue to serve as the Army Coordinating Officer of the Ministry of Defence.
Major General De Silva had been in the spotlight recently following the three army personnel taken into custody with a white van in the Mirihana area.
Major General Prasanna de Silva assumed duties as Colonel of the Regiment of Commando Regiment on 07th August, 2013.
The pinnacle of his military carrier was when he commanded the 59 division in the final phase of the humanitarian operation.
