SLFP Central Committee convenes today

The Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has convened this morning, for the first time after the 2015 parliamentary election. 

 

The central committee meeting, which convened at around 9.00am today, is chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena who is also the chairman of the party.

 

The Colombo District Court had recently extended an enjoining order issued preventing the SLFP Central Committee from convening without the consent of the party’s Chairman, until August 24.  

 

On August 17, Sirisena sacked 13 members from the SLFP Central Committee and sent a letter to the Elections Commissioner informing him of the removal and a list of the new 25 members of the Central Committee.

 

Meanwhile the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) of the UPFA are set to meet with the President this morning. 

 

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Presidential Secretariat.
