A jailer and two prison guards have been suspended for allegedly facilitating a meeting for notorious drug peddler Mohammed Siddik with an individual inside a cell at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, a source from the Prison Authorities say.
“Due to security reasons, the prison officials were directed to escort Mohammed Siddik separate from the other inmates. But footage from a cameraman shows that Siddik was escorting with another individual,” Commissioner General of Prisons Rohana Pushpakumara said.
Siddik, a wanted drug trafficker, believed to be an accomplice of notorious drug lord Samantha Kumara alias “Wele Suda,” was brought back to the country following his arrest in Pakistan last March.
Mohammed Siddik, a former resident of Dematagoda, is suspected operating a major heroin-smuggling network between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, where he had fled to several years back, along with Wele Suda, as authorities closed in on them.
The suspect was apprehended by authorities in Pakistan based on a Red Notice issued for his arrest. He was brought to Colombo and handed over to CID officers.
