The Colombo High Court on Wednesday granted bail to former UPFA MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena who is in custody for allegedly misusing vehicles belonging to the President Secretariat Office.
A bail application was accepted when the case was taken up for hearing before High Court Judge Manilal Vaidyatilaka. The former MP was enlarged on a cash bail of Rs.1 million and two personal bails of Rs.20 million each.
Gunawardena has been remanded until October 6 by the Fort Magistrate’s Court in connection with this case.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) summoned Gunawardena to record a statement on May 11, where he was subsequently arrested.
Gunawardena was also on bail in a separate case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption for non-declaration of his assets.
