The Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate and inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIPAC) has decided to commence a separate investigation in connection with the Avant Garde ship which is anchored at the Galle Harbour.

The Secretary of the Commission, Lasil de Silva said a group representing the PRECIPAC would visit the ship on October 28.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) earlier sealed three more containers of weapons and ammunition belonging to the ship. Investigations into the vessel, which is under the custody of the Sri Lanka Navy, have been hand over to the CID, as the navy lodged a complaint with the Galle Harbour police.

The navy had previously stated that nearly 900 firearms including T56 rifles and around 200,000 bullets were found onboard the arms ship.

The navy had carried out preliminary inquiries on the ship and handed a report to the Defence Secretary. The report is being analyzed by a committee appointed by the Ministry of Defence.
