A Police Constable attached to the Hikkaduwa Branch of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) has been arrested while soliciting a bribe of Rs 1 million to alter his testimony at court.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption stated that the police officer was arrested in the Arachchikanda area in Hikkaduwa last night and that he will be produced at the Baddegama Magistrate’s Court today.
The constable had reportedly requested a bribe of Rs 1.5 million and was arrested while accepting an initial sum of Rs 1 million from that.
The bribery commission says that the bribe was to influence the police constable’s testimony at the trial of a prison guard who had been arrested for the possession of 10 grams of heroin in 2013.
