Severe weather alert issued for strong winds

The Department of Meteorology today urged naval and fishing communities not to set out to the sea off east coast of Sri Lanka due to strong winds.
The low pressure area to the East of Sri Lanka has intensified into a depression and located near 8.7N and 86.6E (about 500km to the East of Trincomalee).
Thunder showers with strong anticlockwise winds are expected in the area of 300 km about the center, according to the severe weather alert issued by the department’s Early Warning Centre.
Naval and fishing communities are therefore kindly requested not to set out to the sea off east coast of Sri Lanka, it said.
