November 11, 2015   10:32 am

A navy cadet shot and killed a 26-year-old woman before turning the gun on himself in Matara, police said.

The 26-year-old cadet, who was attached to the Tangalle navy camp, reportedly used his T56 service rifle to carry out the shooting in the Wewahamanduwa area.

Police have seized the rifle and two magazines containing 43 bullets from the scene of the incident.

Police suspect a lovers’ quarrel as the cause for the murder-suicide.
