Some 32 suspects, who have been detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, were further remanded till November 24 since there were no instructions still from the AG department, Ada Derana reporter says.
The AG department will file applications at Courts in a bid to seek the release of these suspects, said the Commissioner General of Prisons.
The suspects with ‘bailable offenses’ will only be released, Commissioner Pushpakumara told Ada Derana. Applications will also be filed for the release of another batch of 32 suspects later, Pushpakumara added.
Over 200 Tamil prisoners had yet again commenced their hunger strike in several prisons across the country yesterday to protest against being jailed for years without trial. Earlier, they ended the fast following an assurance from President Maithripala Sirisena that their grievances would be addressed.
