The Met Dept. forecasts prevailing showery weather over the island will decrease to some extent effective from today.
This is due to the depression in the Bay of Bengal has weakened into a low pressure area and is moving away from Sri Lank. It is likely to enter Indian land mass through North Thamilnadu coast by Monday (16) evening or tonight, the Dept. states.
However, under the in fluecne of the system, Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern half and South-western coastal areas of the island. Showers or thundershowers will develop elsewhere particularly after 02.00p.m. Heavy falls (about 100 mm) are also likely at some places.
Possibility for strong winds over the country and surrounding sea areas is still high, the Met Dept. forecasts.
