Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa could have won the last General Election if he had contested independently, Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero says.
The observation was made at a press conference held in Colombo this afternoon (16).
Nalaka Thero pointed out Rajapaksa lost both the Prime Ministerial post and the Opposition Leader post as he contested under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena.
Speaking at the event, Ven. Medagoda Abayathissa Thero said he is of the view that the stability of the country is in jeopardy since there is more than one leader to rule the island nation. “Many leaders, but no one truly loves this country,” said Abayathissa Thero.
Abayathissa Thero also severely criticised the government’s decision to bail out suspects detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
