Woman held with foreign currency worth over Rs 28m

A Sri Lankan woman has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake for attempting to leave the country with foreign currency worth over Rs 28 million.
She was arrested by customs officers at the departure terminal while preparing to board a Bangkok- bound flight (TG 308) at 12.45am today, spokesman Leslie Gamini said.
Several stacks of foreign currency notes including pound sterling, US dollars, Swiss Francs, Euros and Saudi riyals were found inside her luggage, he said.
The foreign currency is estimated to be worth Rs 28,057,645 in total.
The arrested suspect is a 50-year-old woman from Kaduwela.
