The government is set to reverse its decision to block a Chinese-funded port development in Colombo, Minister Rajitha Senaratne says.

Minister Senaratne said Sri Lankan government will give its nod to resume the Port City project soon.

The observation was made at a weekly press conference held at the Government Information Department today (03).

“The government wanted to review an environmental management report with respect to the project. That was why we halted the project,” Senaratne added.

Responding to a question on the Avant Garde issue, Senaratne said the government has earned revenue to the tune of $525,000 within six days from the security service. “That means it could generate revenue of about Rs.12.5 million per a day, however, it had earned Rs. 2.5 million per a day during the previous government’s time,” he said.

He also claimed he was unaware that the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) was about to stage a strike today. “During the meeting, the GMOA did not inform me that it was about to stage the strike,” said Senaratne.
