Five killed in accident at Warakapola

Five persons have been killed while another dozen were wounded due to an accident between a van and a bus at Dummaladeniya in Warakapola this morning, Police said. 

The traffic collision had occurred at around 4.30am today while three females, a male and an infant are among the dead. 

Police said the van was traveling from Samanturai towards Colombo and the bus was transporting a group of people to Somawathiya in Polonnaruwa. 

Seventeen individuals were in the van at the time of the accident while apart from the 5 deceased the other 12 are currently hospitalized. Four of them are said to be in critical condition. 

Warakapola Police is conducting an investigation into the incident.
