
A 35-year-old individual has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport today (20) after he allegedly attempted to leave the country with foreign currency worth around Rs. 61 million.
The suspect, who is said to be a gem businessman from Galle, was arrested by the officials attached to the Sri Lanka Customs (SLC), while he was preparing to board a flight to Singapore, Customs Media Spokesperson Leslie Gamini said.
Investigations were being carried out by Superintends of Customs S. Gnanadada, A.L.D.A. Gunawardhana, Deputy Superintends of Customs A.A.D.L. Shanthapriya. Asst. Superintends of Customs D.N.C. Abeynayake, A.K.R. Samanjith and D.M.U. Tharanga.
The SLC has also imposed a penalty of Rs. 100,000 on the suspect.
