Hartal in Vavuniya today

The residents of Vavuniya are staging a hartal that began in the morning today (24) demanding justice for victims of sexual abuse.
Today’s hartal sparked with the recent murder and rape of a 14-year-old girl in Vavuniya, Ada Derana reporter said.
The protesters have urged the police to take immediate steps to arrest the suspects involved in this case and to take action on the ongoing sexual violence against women and children.
Police and Army forces have been deployed to calm the situation as the hartal was declared since about 7 a.m. this morning.
