The trial of former Sri Lankan minister Douglas Devananda linked to a murder case will be held on video-conferencing on March 5, the Tamil Nadu court handling the case has said.
Fourth Additional Sessions Judge M Shanti has issued a communiqué to the prosecution saying video-conferencing arrangements are made to try the former Sri Lankan minister and directed prosecution to produce its witnesses on that day without fail.
A former member of Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF), Devananda was cited as one of the accused in the murder of a person in a shootout at Choolaimedu area in Chennai in 1987.
Though a non-bailable warrant was issued against Devananda, who later became a minister in the Mahinda Rajapaksa government, he chose not to visit India and moved Madras High Court to cancel the warrant.
