
State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene says that national security will be further strengthened and that there are no motives to arrest military personnel or to lessen the strength of the military owing to external factors.
Plans are also afoot to thwart the activities of the criminal underworld, he said while addressing a gathering in Ratnapura yesterday (11), during the launching ceremony of the ‘Virusara’ Privilege Card Phase - II.
Elaborating on the power of the unity, he said that pursuit of a thriving development drive would not be possible in a communally divided society, hence harmony is paramount important. As we are now working towards the development, country people would reap the benefits soon, the state minister said.
The State Minister further mentioned that, prevailing law of the country is equal to every citizen irrespective of their status. Meanwhile he also recalled on the cruelty and awful experiences of the three decade long war during the speech.
The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi and the State Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Mr. APG Kithsiri were also present at the event held at the Gemunu Watch Regimental Headquarters in Kuruwita, Ratnapura.
