North Western Provincial Council UPFA member N. T. M. Thahir has been arrested for allegedly verbally abusing and attempting to assault the Puttalam Zonal Director of Education, Sarath Wijesinghe.
The provincial councillor was arrested this afternoon after he appeared before Puttalam Police with two attorneys.
The Zonal Education Director had lodged a complaint with police last evening claiming that the UPFA politician verbally abused and attempted to assault him inside the Zonal Education Office, Puttalam.
Police have also recorded statements from three persons who were allegedly inside the Zonal Education Director’s office room at the time of the incident.
Meanwhile the UPFA provincial councillor has also lodged a complaint with Puttalam Police accusing the Zonal Education Director of verbally abusing and insulting him when he visited the latter to discuss an issue concerning teachers.
Puttalam Police said the arrested PC member will be produced at the Puttalam District Court after a statement is recorded from him.
