Three Indian fishermen arrested off Delft Island

Three Indian fishermen have been arrested along with an Indian fishing trawler for poaching in Sri Lankan waters North-West of Delft Island.
Sri Lanka Navy assisted the Sri Lanka Coast Guard to arrest the fishermen on Wednesday (23), the SLN media unit said.
The arrested fishermen were brought to Kankasanthurai and will be handed over to the officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (Jaffna) for onward action, it said.
Meanwhile naval personnel attached to SLN Dockyard arrested six local fishermen, along with a Fiber Glass Dinghy, engaged in illegal fishing in the seas off Kuchchaweli, Trincomalee on Wednesday.
During the arrest, two pairs of diving fins and a purse-seine net were taken into custody.
The suspects and belongings were produced to the Kuchchaweli Police Station for onward investigations.
