The Bribery Commission today filed action against former Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Dr Priyath Bandu Wickrama and 2 others for allegedly employing over 300 employees of the SLPA for election work during the presidential poll.
The case has been filed with the Colombo Magistrate’s Court accusing them of using 319 employees of the Ports Authority for election work during the period from October 2014 to January 07, 2015 and thereby causing a loss of Rs 65 million.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had requested from the court that the defendants be summoned before the court for handing over charge sheets.
Therefore the former SLPA chairman and 2 other officials were issued notice by the Colombo Additional Magistrate to appear before the court.
Wickarama, who was appointed as SLPA Chairman by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, stepped down from his position following the election victory of Maithripala Sirisena on January 08, 2015.
