
Multiple gun shots have been fired outside a residence in Uraliya, Madampe last night amidst the sound of firecrackers.
Police said that no casualties have been reported as a result of the shooting incident which had damaged the car parked outside.
Nine bullets holes are visible on the front passenger door of the vehicle, according to reports.
The 38-year-old house owner has informed police that although he and his family were at home at the time of the incident, it was only in the morning that they realized that a shooting had occurred.
He said that the sound of possible gun shots were heard at around 11.00am last night, however they had ignored this as firecrackers were being lit in the area signaling the dawn of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
Police said that information has been received regarding two suspicious individuals on a motorcycle roaming the area.
Madampe Police is conducting an investigation.
