The Sri Lanka Army on Saturday said that search operations have ended at landslide hit area of Bulathkohupitiya in the Kegalle District.
Army Media Spokesperson Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, speaking to Ada Derana, stated that rescuers had recovered 14 bodies and 2 human body parts buried under mounds of earth.
Some 16 people were reported missing following the landslide at Kalupahanawatta in Bulathkohupitiya on Tuesday (May 17).
Rescue and medical teams had rushed to the site to conduct an immediate rescue operation but efforts were being hampered due to extreme weather conditions.
According to the DMC, six rows of houses had been damaged, some completely buried under the debris.
Another landslide was reported in the Berawila Kanda at Aranayake earlier today (21).
However, the military spokesman said that so far there have been no reports of any damage being caused by that landslide.
