The authorities must clarify on which basis a government owned vehicle was provided to JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath, UPFA MP Sisira Jayakody asserted.

The observation was made while speaking a t a press conference held in Colombo this afternoon (01).

“Why he was provided with a government owned vehicle? and if so, why the driver of the vehicle was not inside at the time of the accident? must be answered,” Jayakody said.

He pointed out as far as he knows it is almost hard to get bail for damaging public property, “I heard once a man was remanded on the charges of throwing a stone at a SLTB bus,” he added.

The JVP Propaganda Secretary was arrested following a road accident on Monday (30) night and granted police bail. He was arrested by the Welikada police after his car reportedly crashed into a telephone pole in Rajagiriya. Herath was ordered to pay Rs 1,500 government fee for two other charges of reckless driving and damaging public property.

Meanwhile, C.B. Rathnayake addressing the press conference added that the Joint Opposition would bring yet another motion of no-confidence against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake on 06 June.

Two no-confidence motions signed by opposition MPs against the Finance Minister were handed over to the Speaker in previous occasions as well.
