Basil Rajapaksa released on bail

Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa has been released on bail by the Pugoda Magistrate’s Court, a short while ago on Monday afternoon.   


The suspect was released after being produced before the Magistrate by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID), Ada Derana reporter said. He was released on two personal bails of Rs. 2 million each and a cash bail Rs.100,000.


Basil Rajapaksa arrested after arriving at the FCID to give a statement in connection with a money laundering case.


The FCID had arrested Basil Rajapaksa over a land issue in Matara on 12 May as well.  He was previously arrested in April last year too on alleged financial misappropriations in the Divi Neguma Department.
