The Parliamentary Affairs Committed has found that there is no necessity for a No-Confidence Motion against the Secretary-General of Parliament, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said today (10).

A No-Confidence Motion against the Secretary-General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake was handed over to the Speaker on Tuesday stating that the Secretary-General should be removed from his position due to failure to carry out the division on May 5, 2016 on the Supplementary Estimate vote.

The motion that was signed by 32 Parliamentarians was handed over by Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) leader Dinesh Gunawardena.

The Speaker appointed a committee to look into the incident while the recommendations of the report compiled by the said committee were presented to Parliament today.

The Speaker stated that the vote on the Supplementary Estimate being held at 5.45pm on that date despite being scheduled for 6.30pm had caused an issue and that MPs Wimal Weerawansa and Sisira Jayakody had expressed regret over the incident.

However, there is no necessity for a no-confidence motion against the Secretary-General at this point based on humanitarian grounds, he had said.
