The move to arrest Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader MP Udaya Gammanpila was not an “abrupt decision”, Minister P. Harrison says.
The observation was made while responding to media personnel in Anuradhapura.
“The MP was arrested as a result of an investigation carried out by the police. The charges against him are clear,” said Harrison.
The UPFA Colombo District Parliamentarian Gammanpila, who was arrested last morning by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), at his office in Pagoda Road, Nugegoda, has been remanded till July 01 by Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
The Minister also went on to say the Government has no intention to shutdown the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID).
“It is the opposition MPs who wanted a closure of the FCID,” he added.
