
The keepers of unprotected railway crossings across the country are engaged in a strike since this morning (07), an official said.
Secretary of the Keepers of Unprotected Railway Crossings Association Nimal Chandrasiri said the decision was taken as the authorities have failed to grant a proposed Rs.5000 wage hike.
According to him, over 2000 railway gatemen have taken part in the strike.
Meanwhile, the Department of Railways has advised members of the public including motorists to be cautious when using unprotected railway crossings today in view of the strike.
